What Are the Different Kinds of Plumbing Repair?
The most common plumbing repair is a faulty fixture. A household plumbing system will service numerous fixtures, including sinks, showers, toilets, bathtubs, and even landscape irrigation systems, to name but a few. Failures in any of these have the potential to cause problems system-wide, especially when it results in the loss of water pressure due to the leak. The most common problems are dripping faucets and faulty toilets.
Dripping faucets are often due to worn-out washers or faucet cartridges, both are quite easy repairs and can be done by the homeowner. Toilets malfunction in several different ways, mostly within the water tank. The 2 most common issues are worn flap-valves or a faulty float valve. Fortunately, both repairs can be performed quickly and easily by the homeowner.
A third plumbing repair is to clear a clog usually found within the drainage system. Clogs result in the slow-draining of sinks, bathtubs, and toilets, and when it is particularly severe, it can back the water up so it overflows. There are several ways one can treat a clogged drainpipe, the most direct one, however, is to clear the drain by forcing a cable through it.
Small stoppages can often be cleared using a hand-operated cable known as a closet auger, however, large clogs are usually cleared using an electric plumber’s snake. These devices each have different attachments that are used to clear obstructions, either by pushing them through to the sewer or shredding them and leaving the water to wash away the pieces. Various caustic chemical mixtures are available to pour down sluggish or clogged drains and work overtime by loosening clogs, especially ones caused by a combination of grease, hair, and kitchen waste.
